WordSnap Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 20, 2026
WordSnap (“the Extension”) helps you look up English words and subtitle
lines while watching videos. This policy explains what data the Extension
handles.
Data the Extension collects
-
Lookup history — words and lines you select, their
meanings, and timestamps. Stored locally on your device only (last 10
entries).
-
Settings — your preferred translation language and
onboarding preferences. Stored locally on your device.
-
Selected text — when you highlight a word or line, that
text is sent to third-party APIs to fetch a definition or translation.
Data the Extension does not collect
- No account or login
- No browsing history
- No personal identity information
- No analytics or tracking by the Extension developer
Third-party services
Lookups use these external APIs:
-
Free Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) — word
definitions
-
MyMemory Translation API (api.mymemory.translated.net)
— line translations
Only the text you select is sent to these services. Review their privacy
policies for how they handle requests.
Permissions
-
storage — save settings and recent lookups on your
device
-
host permissions — call dictionary and translation APIs
-
content scripts on web pages — show the caption bar and
tooltip on sites you visit
Data retention and deletion
All Extension data is stored in your browser via
chrome.storage.local. You can delete lookup history anytime
from the Extension popup (“Clear history”). Uninstalling the Extension
removes all locally stored data.
Children
The Extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly
collect personal information from children.
Changes
This policy may be updated when the Extension changes. The “Last updated”
date above will reflect the latest revision.
